Math:
The addition strategies of knowing their doubles facts, doubles plus one, and doubles plus two is what we are working on. The children who know their doubles facts really caught on quickly to the idea that if you know your doubles facts, some facts are just a doubles fact +1. Doubles plus 2 has proven to be a bit more difficult. Keep practicing addition facts at home!
Writing:
We will continue to write how-to stories this week. We will be generating new topic ideas and learning how to tell their audience how to do something by stretching out all the details bit by bit.
Reading:
This week, we will be thinking deeply about our characters and trying to tell how a character is feeling by how they act. We will also be trying to figure out what type of person our characters are. We will continue to learn about letter blends and consonant clusters to help us figure out more difficult words.
Science:
Last week we began our unit on germs. Due to the large number of illnesses, I put off a couple of the experiments until this coming week. We will be figuring out the best way to get rid of germs on our skin and how germs can spread.
