We're Still Here!

Where has the time been going?  It seems like each day is busier than the next.  This week have proven to be an exciting one for the class.

Thursday we were joined by a Junior Achievement volunteer.  She is teaching the unit on families.  This week the students learned the definitions of "family" and "volunteer."  In the coming weeks she will deepen this understanding and teach us the differences between the things we want and the things we need.

We had an assembly over at John Long Middle School last week where we enjoyed the Trinity Irish Dancers.  They showed us many of their dances and taught us a little history about Irish dancing.

Writer's Workshop:
Last week we completed ranking the collections the children brought in and writing our opinion pieces about them.  The class learned that they can have an opinion about their collection and tell why they think the way they do.  This week, we started writing reviews of movies, toys, games, and restaurants - just like real "reviewers" do!  These pictures will show you many of the collections the children shared with the class and were writing about.

Reader's Workshop:
This past week, we have been reminded that reader's stop to think about what the author is trying to tell us in our books.  The decoding of words has become harder now that the books are longer and more complicated.  We also reviewed how to "shop for books" that are "just right" for them.

Enjoy your weekend!
