Week in Review

What a busy week this has been!  The children have settled into our first grade routine and are all learning lots of new things.  

Here are some highlights of our past week:

A visit from A Girl With a Cape author Amy Logan.

Celebrated a birthday.
To celebrate a birthday, the child holds the globe (That's where she lives!) and shows the class how many times she has traveled around the sun that I hold.  This helps the children learn that the earth goes around the sun one time every year.  

Started the Wednesday Walking Club

Did more experiments with sand and clay.

Did you know there is something smaller than sand? Silt!

Performing an investigation in Science.

Recording her learning in her Science Notebook.

Writing about his day in the Kid Journal app.

My favorite new app discovery to reinforce the place value lessons I've been teaching.

(I think the kids liked it, too!)

Many of the children are disappointed that our first science unit has come to an end.  We will be going back to Science next Trimester.  But for now, they will have a health unit about germs and two Social Studies units.  The first being about cultures and traditions.  The second about "life long ago."  There will be many fun activities in these subject areas, too.

When we are learning about different cultures, if you would like to come in and talk a little bit about your family's culture and share some artifacts, please let me know.

• Please return the pledge sheets and money for the spell-a-thon on Monday.
• Tuesday is Woodview Spiritwear day.
• Tuesday is McTeacher night at McDonald's.
• Wednesday the student council will be having a popcorn sale during lunch.
