Today we learned a new math game called "Headache"! This is a great way to practice math facts. Three children worked together in a small group where one person was the teacher and the other two were the students. The students would close their eyes and the teacher would put a card on each of his/her students heads. Next, the students open their eyes and the teacher tells them what the total of the two cards are. The students need to figure out what number card is on their own forehead without peeking!
This teacher said, "The total is 10." The student on the left needed to figure out that she had a 6 on her head and the student on the right needed to figure out he had a four. Many children used the count on strategy by counting up to the total from the other students number. Others used doubles and tens facts to help them out.
