Gourds

Each first grader received his or her very own gourd last Monday.  Isn't it amazing how they are all so different?  

The first thing we did was weigh our gourds in a pan balance.  We discovered what weighed the same as our gourd, as well as found objects in the classroom that were heavier and lighter than each gourd.  Here is some of our data:

Finally: we brainstormed lots of words that could describe our gourds.  Here it is:

We completed our learning by writing a description of our gourd, using the chart above to help us get ideas. Everyone is so proud of their work!
