Animals of the Polar Regions

This week we completed our study of animals that live in the polar regions.  The children made these adorable penguin projects that I tied into our math learning.  They had to write a math problem that had the answer of "10 fish".  Everyone had such creative ideas!

We did an experiment to discover why so many polar animals have blubber.  We made a mitten of sorts using 2 plastic bags and put shortening in between the two bags.  Next, we went outside and scooped up some nice, cold snow.  Each child had a chance to touch the snow with both hands - 1 hand inside the blubber mitten and 1 hand all by itself.  They all decided that if they lived near one of the poles they hoped they would have lots of blubber!
