Updates

We are getting into some really nice routines in first grade.  As the children get to know one another, they have so much to share.  During this coming week, we will be reviewing the Woodview Way and reinforcing when it is a listening time, when it is a work time, and when it is a social time.

Highlights for the week:
Social Studies:  We will begin to learn about different cultures.  We will take a "mini-vacation" to China and Mexico to learn about two other countries cultures.
Reader's Workshop:  We will continue to build our stamina for independent and partner reading and learn strategies for good reading habits
Writer's Workshop:  We are writing small moments stories.  Please look for a family project coming home on Monday to help your writer pull ideas for these small moments narratives.
Word Study:  spelling pattern:  ch  - Please remember that we will begin spelling tests in two weeks.  This week we will also learn when to use capital letters (the word I, beginning of names, days of the week, months of the year, beginning of sentences, holidays).
Math:  We will work with counting on from a number.
