Nouns and Verbs

Over the past two weeks, our grammar focus has been on recognizing nouns and verbs.  The children can identify nouns as words that name people, places, and things.  They have also learned that verbs are words that show action.

We had a lot of fun last week going on a noun hunt around our classroom.  Everyone was able to find many items to put on their lists.  The children also participated in a class game where one person had a note card with a noun written on it placed on his/her forehead.  The other students gave clues describing the noun.  We had a lot of laughs as the person with the note card on his/her forehead guessed each word.

After learning that verbs show action, the class wrote a book.  Each page had a 2 word sentence.  They decided that my page would say, "Mrs. Piaro types."  The pages have been illustrated and put into a class book.  I'm sure everyone will enjoy re-reading this book during reading time.
