Math is Fun!

The class has experienced many different math games this past week. I would encourage you to play some of them at home to reinforce skills.  I've included simple directions below:

Domino Addition:  
The children drew a domino out of a basket, returned to their desks, and wrote addition problems to show the total value of each domino.

Addition Top-It:  
Place a deck of cards (with the face cards removed) in the middle.  Each child draws 2 cards and adds them together.  The person with the largest sum gets to keep both cards.  The winner will have the most cards at the end.

Penny - Nickel - Dime Exchange Game:

Directions:

1. Partners put 20 pennies, 10 nickels, and   5 dimes in a pile.  This is the bank.
2. Players take turns rolling a die and collecting the number of pennies shown on the die from the bank.  Players will exchange coins before they roll for their turn.
3. Whenever players have at least 5 pennies, they say, “Exchange!” and trade 5 pennies for a nickel from the bank.
4. Whenever players have a nickel and either 5 pennies or they have two nickels, they say, “Exchange!” and trade their money in for a dime.
5. The game ends when there are no more dimes in the bank.  The player who has the most money wins!

 Variation:  Have children play with a larger bank and 2 dice.
