Math Games

I had a few requests during conferences to share some of the math games I have been teaching the children.  We have been working on our addition skills, especially the sums of 10.

Make 10:
Materials:  Standard deck of cards.  Remove the face cards and the 10's.
Lay all the cards down like you would for the game Memory.
Take turns turning over 2 cards and add them together.  If the sum is 10, you get to keep both cards and go again.

Go Fish 10:
Materials:  Standard deck of cards.  Remove the face cards and the 10's.
Deal 5 cards to each player.
Play just like regular go-fish, but instead of asking for like numbered cards, you will ask for the number that will add up to 10 when added to a card in your hand.

Addition Top-It:
Materials:  Standard deck of cards.  Remove the face cards.
Place all cards in a stack upside down in between the two players.
Each player flips over 2 cards and adds the cards together.
The player with the highest sum gets to keep all 4 cards.

Math Lines:
This is a web-based game to be played on a computer.  Please click HERE to go to the website.

Math Fire:
Almost identical to Math Lines above, but an app for the iPad.  Click HERE to go to the Apple store.
